Corporate Statements

Below are some statements from our corporate sponsors and supporters, explaining why they choose to support Te Ipukarea Society:

Cook Islands Trading Corporation (CITC)
CITC is committed to helping build a more sustainable future by partnering with organisations such as TIS to encourage recycling, reducing our carbon footprint and supporting initiatives that will protect our environment. It has taken us too long to recognize how much damage we have been doing to our environment but if we all make a small change in our actions, the impact will be huge. CITC became a Gold member to work with and support TIS to promote positive outcomes to environmental problems.

Goldmine
Our main reason for sponsoring TIS is concern regarding pollution (mainly of the lagoons) and the waste management problems here in the Cook Islands. In the 23 years I have been here there has definitely been an improvement in the water quality in the lagoons and TIS do a good job with awareness and actions in this regard.

Koka Lagoon Cruises
We are more than happy to be able to support TIS, to be able to contribute to their projects and campaigns towards a sustainable healthy and beautiful environment for future generations. We commend them on the work they do, and look forward to continuing our support.

Rongohiva Watersports & Advertising
Government policy of the day is not always correct, and it takes a passionate group of people to effect change. Te Ipukarea Society (TIS) is an environmental Non-Government Organization that comprises of a group of passionate people who care deeply for the environment, and have a history of taking a stance against government policy of the day for their belief in change for the better. Among the many issues they have tackled, TIS was involved in protesting against the French Government’s nuclear testing efforts in French Polynesia, and most recently led a petition effort to start the conversation in banning the unsustainable fishing method of purse seining within the Cook Islands’ Exclusive Economic Zone, with hopes that this message will carry across the Pacific region. Rongohiva is a proud sponsor of TIS because of the issues they have tackled and continue to tackle within the Cook Islands and across the region, especially those related to the marine environment. An unhealthy marine environment will lead to a cascade of negative consequences, and change needs to begin somewhere.
